We might fall.
Come to the edge.
It's too high!
Come to the edge.
And they came
And he pushed
And they flew"

I read this today! and it really set me thinking!..what makes the difference? why do some people overcome huge challenges and are able to remake their lives better people! and others cannot overcome small trivial matters, and sink into the depths?
Body Language..
When we communicate with someone, we will be doing so on a number of levels, not just the words that we use - tone of voice and body language are also important factors in non-verbal communication.
I want to focus on one area of non verbal communication and make my future work unique..
The focus of my attention is on "Hand Gestures" - particularly at the moment, we are exposed to the carefully managed gestures of politicians when giving their pre-election speeches. The use of hand gestures can be another interesting aspect of body language that show attitudes and emotions. An open palm signifies sincerity, openness. Steepling of the fingers is seen as authoritative, or used during negotiation when considering a proposal. Tapping or drumming the fingers shows impatience. Touching the face indicates thinking, the hair insecurity and the ears indecision.
Do you know of any work that has been done with this one area?
Can you recall any authoritative research in this field?
Or do you think this is a waste of time? and that there are other areas to be explored?
As a new member i would like to highlight my profile to you and share some of my goals.
I was widowed 7 years ago and have been on a huge journey of personal develpment and growth.
I have faced every challenge during the last 7 years that most people would not see in an entire lifetime!!! but i am living proof that one can be successful, and dynamic, and recover lost energies and focus despite huge trauma.I have no regrets!..it has made me a strong and empathic person, a lateral thinker with a flame burning inside to "make a difference"
CHALLENGES INCLUDE
Being told my husband was terminaly ill overnight
Bereavement
Family House move after husbands death
Daughter on drugs aged 14, and truanting
Sent daughter to wilderness retreat in utah
Son was challenging and developed a form of ME as a consequence of his personal trauma
Relationship breakdowns due to challenging single parent life
Balancing work and family life as a single parent
Making a positive life for myself and children and financially supporting us
Discovering after 47 years that my mother was alive living in australia, and that i had 3 step siblings..and then meeting them in australia last year
Discovering after 48 years that i was fostered for the first 3 years of my life and finding my foster sister- who i will meet October 2008
Continually supporting my daughter who has turned her life around, but is continually challenging my energy levels and emotions
Looking after my three month old grandson allowing my daughter to get 8 distinctions and 4 merits in her BTEC National Diploma in performing Arts
Fighting the NHS to perform open heart surgery on a 93 year old father!
Looking after an elderly father in my home, together with a 17 year old hormonal son
to be continued.....
I have a fantastic 17 year old son, and a 18 year old daughter they are my LIFE!
I love life, and love to laugh and meet honest and fun people, who are givers and not just Takers
SO TO SHARE SOME OF MY PERSONAL GOALS...
I plan to write a book and film script, a huge undertaking!!! I have the time, just need the correct collaborators!!!
In essence i would like two ghostwriters to script it in consultation with me.
A female would tell my story..in an autobiographical way.....and a male scriptwriter to tell the story of my late husbands response and thoughts to the picture unfolding on earth below!!!
Quite a challenge!!! but it would allow me the funds and resources i hope to put into action my next project....!!! and that is one in which your members could possibly support me in.
I want to set up a charity for bereaved children called ANGEL WINGS... ..lets reach out and make life better for our next generations. Surely this is what we would all want to do..make this world a better place for our families and family friends.
Our thoughts were that all children see the lost parent as an angel figure
and that "wings" refers to the spirit soaring (of the lost parent)..and also is relevent to the child as he can climb onto the wings and soar to a "beter place" ..to a "safe place" where he can begin a new journey to re build self esteem,do therapy if required, meet new friendship groups and find some solidity in shared experiences, find a mentor ..and have time to have a respite break in our residential community where fun is the main prerequisite
There is only one in the UK which suppports about 250 children per annum!! but over 20,000 children per year are bereaved! that is one every 30 minutes!!!
I am very involved in the chicken shed theatre. http://www.chickenshed.co.uk/
I am envisaging a headquarters similiar to this.
There would be bedrooms, therapy rooms, theatre space etc.
The charity would be on the lines of Winstons wish which currently only operates in a small area http://www.winstonswish.org.uk/
Funding would also be raised to help children who reacted like my daughter to bereavement, and send them to outside agencies/camps/facilities if the foundation did not have the uk resources.
A centre in London is urgently required, together with a UK helpline.
The charity would undertake field work in schools, and with a network of trained counsellors UK wide would partner up with all NHS trusts to offer specialist counselling for bereavement. There would be theatre activities and therapy offered, together with overnight stays/weekends
That is part of my vision!! !!!!
So glad to be here..Namaste
