    UNIQUE SELLING PROPOSITION

    Hello Fellow Inspired Entrepreneurs,

    I have been given a tough assignment - to define my Unique Selling Proposition (USP)... I know what I would like to do, I have just been wrecking my head trying to think of my USP.. It is very challenging. I still havent got one yet.

    Anyone have any tips on this?

    Cheers,

    Gao

    Hi Gao

    Good to hear from you - can you give me the context in which you have been asked this? For what purpose? Then I can give you a few ideas

    Cheers

    As Nick I do believe that everybody is unique and has unique talents and gifts for the rest of the world. Even so I don’t know the area where they want you to define your USP, I think that you should be writing down what you yourself think about you

    -          what are the unique gifts that you could bring to the people that asked you for your USP?

    -          What could you give/bring to them in a way that no one else can?

    -          What would be different for them if you are working with/for them?

    -

    Good luck

    Martin

    Re: UNIQUE SELLING PROPOSITION

    Hi Nick,

    Thanks Nick. I would like to start training groups of people on microsoft word and other MIcrosoft office programs such as Excel. I am a Word Specialist and I think that a lot of people in offices do not know how to use word processors in general. SO I would like to go into such training... This is the context in which I was being asked to define my USP.

    Cheers,  Gao

    Re: UNIQUE SELLING PROPOSITION

    Hi Gao

    Thanks - that helps - my suggestion then is that you think about things like:

    1. Your own experience - what have you done with who

    2. What have been your greatest successes?

    3. What are you most proud of?

    4. What particular personal passions do you bring to this?

    5. What particular skills, and abilities have you developed?

    6. What expertise have you developed?

    So I think they are looking for what you bring uniquely both personally and professionally to the party - as suggested, why don't you dry run it and run it past us?

    Re: UNIQUE SELLING PROPOSITION

    Hello Nick,

    I have tried to answer the questions you've asked me....

    1. Experience: What have you done and with whom?

    I experience in training: I have trained people in

    • Basic Entrepreneurial Skills for youth entrepreneurs;
    • Public Relations/Customer Care;
    • Electronic Commerce

    Particular to Microsoft Word, I have trained employees of a small local consultancy company called Motlabaseyo in Basic Microsoft Word Skills over a period of about 6 months on an intermittent basis.

    Having worked within training environments, I have been exposed to a lot of ‘behind the scenes’ work – that is logistics, procedures, material development and coordination.

    2. Greatest successes

    3. What are you most proud of?

    I have been told that I am a really good trainer in the trainings I have had with various people in different parts of the country. I am proud that I am an eloquent speaker, and am not shy.

    I am proud that I know Microsoft Word so well that very often I am the “go to” person when my close friends are stuck with Word, they can just call me and I give them instructions over the phone.

    4. What particular personal passions do you bring?

    I have a passion and zest for life in general and I like helping people.  I have a passion for ICTs in general, and in particular, in training with regards to Office Applications.  I also take an interest in learning new things at every opportunity, and therefore continually seek to empower myself with more knowledge.

    5. What particular skills and abilities have you developed?

    I have developed public speaking skills, the confidence to present to large audiences. I am also patient when training people. I am able to think on my feet and can think of relevant examples while on my feet.

    6. What expertise have you developed?

    I am a Microsoft Certified Application Specialist in Word 2007 and I am registered with the local training authority as a trainer.

    I hold:

    ·         Bachelor of Business Administration (Marketing);

    ·         International Diploma in Computer Studies (IDCS)

    ·         A Certificate in Internet Governance

    A combination of all these allows me to cross over and merge the skills attained in each of these and to be able to think very broadly and apply myself in any or all of these areas.

    This makes me an ideal person with regards to training as I can apply myself to a variety of situations.

    Hi Gao

    Sounds good to me. I'd hire you! Does it help you? I don't think it is about trying to better than anyone, but rather about knowing what your strengths and unique experience is and what you can bring to the party. You bring alot. Do you feel able to "own" this and communicate it to them OK?
