Is this situation known to somebody

    Hello Nick,

listening to different talks / interviews I am aware that anybody seems to get to a point of doubt and resistance. In my case this point seems to be around responsibility for my family. I tend to think that I would not hesitate a minute to become completely self employed if there were nobody else than myself which I had to care for. In fact my children are already grown up (Julia 25 has her own job since three years, Johanna 22 has one more year at University) and my wife, even so she has an important task taking care of all the elders in our family, has no own income. There's still a mortgage on the house and there need things to be bought for the daily life - food, clothes and so on.

Do you know other people that have done the jump into the cold water in a similar situation? What kind of resistance did they overcome and how? How would you try to tackle mine?

Looking forward to your answer or to experience of anybody else who is / has been in a similar situation.

    Martin

    Hi Martin

I think you have your own answer - you know in your heart what you want - to be self employed. I'd suggest your question be more around, "How do I become succesfully self employed so that I can continue my family?" You can be responsible to your family and be responsible to your own heart and passion - they are not mutually exclusive. But we suggest you build up the new so you can transition into it.

But also resistance is likely to kick in the closer you get to making decisions and changing direction. That's normal. Again, you can keep ploughing forward in the face of your resistance. But there is nothing wrong with you.

    Hope that might help

    Nick

You can transition slowly - start to look at how much money you need to survive. Make cutbacks and save some each month to help your financial cushion.

Build up what you do out of your job to start to make some money or build up the skills and contacts you will need. See if you can reduce your hours and build your biz/ passion up while still working less at your 'job'. Lots of companies are open to 'flexible working'

Write down where you want to be in 12 months time and take daily steps to make sure you get there. Write everything down and plan, take action and reward yourself for everything scary you have done. A coach can help you too!

    Have fun!
