    Blog set up

    Hi Chaps

What a gift it is to have somewhere to go that is 'on tap', informative and friendly to help answer some of my IT and conbabulating business set up questions.

Niki, I've independantly started a blog of my own (feel so proud of creating such a wee thing). There is much I have to learn - though I have made a start.

The thing is, I can access it when I put my name in the search engine.  It's a basic one with Google.  Perhaps you can tell me if there's something I've not clicked or done to let it 'show up'.  Yes, inspired_entrepreneurs is in my link list!

    Thanks for this

    Nyali

blog site is listed under my name:  Nyali Muir

    Re: Blog set up

    Hi Nyali,

Congrats on getting the blog set up :o) can you post a link so we can all see it?

The question you've asked relates to search engine optimisation...

... the first thing to keep in mind is that Google only updates its index (e.g. the collection of web pages that it considers) periodically, so it might take as long as a few weeks for your blog to even show up in the listings.

But, when it does get included, there are a few things you can do to help make sure that your blog appears in the top spot when you type "Nyali Muir" into Google and other search engines.

    • Firstly, make sure that your full name appears (as the first words if possible) in the title of your blog homepage. The title of your page does not actually appear on the page itself, but at the very top of your browser window, and it's one of the most important factors that search engines look at when calculating the rankings. There should be a way to set this fairly easily in the control panel.
    • Secondly, if you can have your own domain name for the blog e.g. "blog.nyali-muir.com", or even just "nyalimuir.mybloghost.com" that will help.
    • Thirdly, have a page on your website that's all about you, and mention your name in the heading and multiple times in the body copy.
    • Fourthly, you'll want to get as many links as possible like this - Nyali Muir - that point at your blog - from as many good quality websites as you can. One thing you can do straight away is have a link included in your "signature" on forums like this one. This way, each time you post, you'll get a link back to your site with anchor text that will help you rank for the keywords that are important to you. You can also include these links wherever you publish online, e.g. press releases, articles, and other social media sites, and get reciprocal links from your clients and associates.

The first, fourth and third are probably the most important to do, and with a bit of work you should have no problem getting the top spot.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Niki

Yes it does - this reads 'massively helpful'.

Have got my homework cut out for me - so will work on it over the next few weeks.

Thank you for taking the time to explain it in detail and to give the additional setup hints too. Will keep you posted as I progress through them.  Possible slow response will be because of working on my discertation and job hunting as well, not because I'm slacking.

Practising 'The Law of Attraction' I feel hopeful, optimistic and enabled.  Your expertise and support are added confirmation that I'm on the right path.  I will continue to do all I can, with what I have, from where I am, to promote and publisize your and Nick's invaluable services.

    Nyali
