    Graphics for ebook

    Hi Niki

Can you suggest who I could go to to get a mini graphic designed for my ebook?  I mean the kind of thing that becomes a button or banner on a website.  I know how to make an image clickable, but not how to make the image in the first place.

Maybe someone on these forums has the expertise?

    Thanks

    Cherry

    Hi Cherry,

Elance is great for stuff like this. You could try our provider, Lisa, at Studio Six Sense.

    Hi Niki

Many thanks for the tip.  Have taken the plunge and posted a job on Elance.  I'll let you know how it works out!

    Hi Niki

Hey, this Elance malarkey is fun! Getting bids from all over the place & quite a range of prices.  The portfolios and references on each bidder are really useful as a guide.  What do you recommend that I ask for in terms of file formats? .jpg, .gif, .psd ?? Or do they tend to supply all formats as a matter of course?

    Havin' fun ;-)

    Hey Cherry,

Yeah - we got a really good result via ELance :o) Most designers would be able to give you any of the above formats. Do you have Photoshop? If so, then a PSD would be the way to go because than you can export as either jpg or gif. If you just want the image delivered in web format, the designer can supply you with either a .jpg or .gif depending on what's the most suitable format for the image. Make sure you get them to give you a large version of the image - so that you'll beable to create images of different sizes. If you have a large image, you can make smaller images easily. But the reverse is not true.

    Cheers,

    Niki

    Re: Graphics for ebook

    Hi Niki

My e-book cover is nearly done.  Just wanted to ask you about asking for a large version of the image you mentioned.  What file size do you mean ie how many KB?

I don't have Photoshop but I can do some basic manipulation using PaintNet.  That is what I have used in the past to reduce the size of photos to make them suitable for the web.

    Thanks

    Cherry

    Re: Graphics for ebook

    Hi Cherry,

Sounds like it's going well :o) I was thinking more in terms of pixel dimensions. Basically, you want a copy of the image that's bigger than the biggest version you can possibly imagine needing. I'd ask for something that's at least 1000px by 1000px just to be on the safe side.

Please do share when it's all done :o)

    Thanks,

    Niki

    Hi Niki

New book cover is all done.  Really nice guy in India did the work and kept on tweaking it till I was happy - all for a mere $60!

The result is on this page.  Looks much better than the previous version

I will certainly use Elance again and probably go back to manoj in India if it is an ebook cover I need.

    Isn't the internet brilliant?!

    Thanks for suggesting Elance.
